PIZARRO OPEN TO BAYERN MOVE
Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro has said that he is open to a move from German giant Bayern Munich if such an offer comes in the summer. Claudio Pizarro has been a revelation with Werder Bremen ever since moving from Chelsea a few seasons ago. He has been scoring goals on a consistent basis. Bayern Munich are also looking for a striker to act as a backup for star striker Mario Gomez. It seems that they have targeted Claudio Pizarro, as recent reports suggest that Bayern Munich could be in for the former Chelsea striker in the summer.
Claudio Pizarro’s contract with Werder Bremen comes to an end in the summer of 2013, which means that the club will also be likely to sell the 33-year-old rather than renew his contract. Pizarro is one of the best paid players at the club. However, Werder Bremen are likely to invest the huge wages in a more young player rather than spending it on a ageing star. Bayern Munich, however, are looking at the possibility of signing Pizarro for an entirely different reason. Werder Bremen are currently looking to qualify for the Europa league season and Pizarro has said that he is entirely focused on it now. However, he did suggest that he will be open to the possibility of moving Bayern Munich next season.
“There is no contact with Bayern. I’d be stupid to exclude that. Everything is open. I will soon hold talks with Werder. It could happen that it takes even longer, until a decision is made,” Claudio Pizarro said regarding the possibility of signing for Bayern Munich. The Peruvian will certainly provide Bayern Munich with the necessary physical presence upfront in the absence of Mario Gomez. Bayern Munich are currently second in the Bundesliga table.
