LEEDS, BAYERN SET FOR DEST BATTLE

Premier League outfit Leeds United and German champions Bayern Munich could do battle for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest when the summer transfer window reopens in a matter of weeks according to the report from the stables of Teamtalk.

New Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch knows all about his compatriot Dest who is a regular for the United States team going to this year’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar. Marsch will most likely strengthen the fullback positions in his team ahead of next season and the above-mentioned Dest has been targeted. The fullback positions are seen as areas of weakness at Leeds mainly due to injuries and inconsistent displays and Leeds could make a move for Dest this summer to bolster their right-back spot.

Leeds United have a good relationship with Barcelona after the two teams were involved in the transfer business that saw Junior Firpo move from the Catalan giants to Leeds United at the start of this season. Leeds left-back Firpo has not had the best of seasons at Leeds United in what’s his debut season at the club mainly due to fitness issues. Pete O’Rourke is a journalist with media outlet GiveMeSport and he recently pointed out that the £13m signing of Firpo between Barcelona and Leeds United last summer means that the two clubs are in good terms and they could do business again this summer with Dest who could be on the transfer list at Barcelona with manager Xavi Hernandez targeting new defenders this summer.

It has been reported in the Spanish media that American international Dest could be used to tempt Bayern Munich to part ways with Robert Lewandowski this summer. Polish striker Lewandowski has one year remaining on his Bayern Munich contract and he’s yet to agree a new deal thereby leading to rumours of a transfer to Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.
