HUMMELS: BAYERN ARE FAVOURITES

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has said that Bayern Munich still remain the favourites to win the German Bundesliga title this season after a splendid start. However, there have been few instances just before the Christmas break where Bayern Munich looked shaky.

It was during this time there was speculation that Bayern Munich were losing the plot and that teams like Borussia Dortmund, who remain extremely close, will be capable of taking advantage. However, since the league has assumed the following the extended winter break, Bayern Munich still remain top of the table with a three-point advantage over second placed Borussia Dortmund.

Even though Borussia Dortmund have said that they remain confident of catching Bayern Munich, their defender Mats Hummels has acknowledged to the fact that the Bavarians still remain the favourite team to win the title this season.

There are up to 3 teams that are capable of winning the title ahead of Bayern Munich this season, and Borussia Dortmund are just one of them. Schalke and Borussia Mönchengladbach are also extremely close to Bayern Munich. Only four points separate the top four teams in the German League, which has led to comments from Bayern Munich that they are not the favourites to win the title and that it will be a closely fought competition.

“Bayern Munich are and remain the big favourites to win the league title. We all knew that ahead of the season and it hasn’t changed. It will be very hard for us to retain the title and it might even be an unrealistic goal. We only have a chance if Bayern endure a difficult period and lose points a number of times,” Hummels said to BamS. Bayern Munich will be having the difficult trip to Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Borussia Dortmund will be taking on Hamburg.
