NEW MANAGER?
Bayern Munich could be set to lose their manager Jupp Heynckes in the summer after the 67-year-old recently stated that he would like to step down from his role at the end of this season. Heynckes has come under intense pressure over the last couple of seasons during which time he has overseen a trophyless season for the club. They have also been second best to archrivals Borussia Dortmund in the league, while they have also suffered defeats in the final of the Champions League on two occasions in the last three seasons.
Even though they are top of the table this season and are the favourites to lift the Bundesliga title, this is likely to be his last season at the club according to Heynckes. Despite not winning any major titles during his two years, Heynckes has said that there has been a possible change to the club since he took over. He has said that Bayern Munich are now more modern and play an attractive style of football than ever before. He has said that even though he is likely to step down, his work ethic and other matters will not change in the remainder of the season. The club have a superior nine-point advantage over the second placed Bayern Leverkusen in the table.
“Never before in the history of the club [have] FC Bayern played a more modern and attractive kind of football. A trainer needs his time to implement his ideas and his way of playing football. I [have now been] at Bayern for one and a half years and I think we can now harvest the fruits. Nothing will be changed regarding my work ethics, no matter what will happen in the summer,” said the 67-year-old. He also praised the form of the striker Thomas Müller.
